FAQ

Q.What should I wear and bring to my first lesson?
A. Tracksuit bottoms and t-shirt and soft drink.

Q. Do I have to buy the equipment straight away after first lesson?
A. No, you don't have to buy equipment after your first lesson. We recommend at our club that you attend for a month to ensure martial arts are for you.

Q.How often is the grading and how regally will I grade for my next belt?
A. There are 5 gradings a year. Students are told by their sensei (instructor) when they are ready for examination. At umaa we do not rush our students though the syllabus. The more you train and attend classes and practice at home the quicker you will get to the standard required for each belt.

Q. Do I have to do competitions?
A. No, competitions are not compulsory but at U.M.A.A we recommend students enter completions when they get to a higher level as it helps to improve fighting ability.

Q.what can I expect from a U.M.A.A class?
A. A typical class consists of a warm up, stretching; work out, syllabus training, technical drills, pad work, fighting (except in little dragons class) and a game.
