United Martial Arts Academy is one of the largest Karate clubs in Southern England. We have Dojos in the county of Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire. It was founded in 2000 by chief instructor Andrew Michaelides.
Our aim and goal at U.M.A.A is to improve our students self defence whilst at the same time improving and helping their self esteem, fitness, flexibility, strength, confidence, self belief, goal setting, motivation. Weight loss, keep fit, tone muscles, stay healthy and how to stand up to bullies. Overall giving students a focus to improve them as a person, making martial arts training a beneficial part of there life.
When most students and parents first step foot into a U.M.A. A training room they are often astonished by the standard of tuition, energy level of the sessions the students are participating in and how much fun they are having.
What occurs during U.M.A.A classes is very important but what takes place outside the dojo is just as crucial. During the sessions Our jobs is to deliver high level training information in the format of skills, tactics and physical training to the student in an enjoyable positive and safe Environment.
At U.M.A.A we delver high quality Martial Arts tuition to our students all of our instructors are fully qualified and insured to teach martial arts and are CRB Checked and First Aid Trained.
U.M.A.A classes are small and structured and students are only with other students of their own ability. At U.M.A.A students earn belts the traditional way based on ability. Not how long they have been training for or how many classes they have attended. Our carefully structured classes give each student realistic targets and goals to achieve. We have a high standard and we achieve this with our fun, hard and challenging syllabus.
Unlike most martial arts and karate clubs we do not put students of all ages and grades together. We follow a 6 tier class system: Little Dragons, Beginners, Intermediates, Advanced, Elite and Adults. We are able to achieve this because all U.M.A.A instructors are full time teachers. This allows us to devote more Attention to our students and helps give us more time to focus on teaching them. This allows the student to progress at their own pace and reach their full potential.
Our Grading system is Shito Ryu Karate. Shito Ryu karate was founded in 1932 in Okinawa, Japan by Kenwan Babuni. It is one of the four main styles of karate along with Shotokan, Wado Ryu and Goju Ryu. The Martial Art Karate means Empty Hand. It has a mixture of punches, kicks, sweeps, takedowns and Katas(forms).
As U.M.A.A as students progress though the syllabus the classes become harder and more changeling and we introduce our Elite students to other martial arts techniques and training drills such as: Boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, Judo and tykwon do.
The students Of U.M.A.A are taught to understand the principles and philosophies about the training as well become knowledgeable in the areas of practice and to ensure that the improvements and benefits achieved during the training are maximal and permanent.
At U.M.A.A Schools we teach our students to spot and avoid danger, how to identify dangerous situations and how to protect and defend themselves. This invaluable skill will not only increase confidence it may even save lives. The UMAA Schools offer the keys to long-term success and will help students develop physically, mentally and socially. U.M.A.A students will be surrounded by others with similar goals and aspirations. Students at U.M.A.A develop positive friendships and healthy peer groups. Students who attend U.M.A.A classes are destined to improve their success possible, more importantly the traits that students learn in our unique program will help in everyday life.
United Martial Arts Academy also offers the chance for our students to compete in competitions.
